Kegerator Cleaning

Ok, So why should you have your Kegerator Cleaned?  Well, we are not trying to scare you or gross you out, but like everything else in the world….these things get dirty, ok, maybe dirty isn’t the right word, Unsanitary.

Beer lines and all the moving parts that make up the kegerator will collect and build calcium oxalate.

Calcium Oxalate – From Wikipedia:
Calcium oxalate forms a major component of beerstone, a brownish precipitate that tends to accumulate within vats, barrels and other containers used in the brewing of beer.  Beerstone is composed of calcium and magnesium salts and various organic compounds left over from the brewing process; it promotes the growth of unwanted microorganisms that can adversely affect or even ruin the flavor of a batch of beer.
Calcium oxalate crystals in the urine are the most common constituent of human kidney stones, and calcium oxalate crystal formation is also one of the toxic effects of ethylene glycol poisonig.
Natural occurrence is connected with three minerals: whewellite (monohydrate, known from some coal beds), weddelite (dihydrate) and a very rare trihydrate called caoxite.

Effects of ingestion
Even a small dose of calcium oxalate is enough to cause intense sensations of burning in the mouth and throat, swelling, and choking. In greater doses, however, calcium oxalate causes severe digestive upset, breathing difficulties and—if enough is consumed—convulsions, coma, and death. Recovery from severe oxalate poisoning is possible, but permanent liver and kidney damage may have occurred.

Ok ok ok…so that sort of scares the hell out of me….I don’t think we need to say that the sky is falling just yet.  The amount of beerstone in a kegerator line or coupler will in most cases cause an excess of foam or “change” the true flavor of the beer you love.

So what should you do?
Regular cleaning of your components is recommended.  It is recommended that lines are flushed and cleaned per every keg.  This choice is yours or course.  We recommend every 45-60 days.

Beer Runners offers a Kegerator pressurized sanitation service.  Each cleaning will consist of:

  • Pressurized line and moving parts cleaning
  • Soaking of all parts in approved beer cleaning solution
  • Thorough brushing to remove all and any micro-organisms from the beer lines

Additionally, our beer kegerator technicians will ensure that your kegerator is working at peak performance and make any recommendations to ensure your beer taste as it was meant to be.

Our pressurized sanitation will take approximately 30-45 minutes at your home.  We will schedule a cleaning to take place on a Saturday or Sunday.  Cost is $50.00 per cleaning.

Call to set up your appointment today!
